January 6th 2023

On Friday the 6th of January 2023, the Taiwan Centre for Security Studies (TCSS) hosted a dialogue on the issue of ‘Defence Intelligence’ and ‘Satellite Data’. It was the first in-person event in 2023, inviting officials and scholars from Taiwan and the delegation of industry professionals from Republic of Korea, including representatives from SI Imaging Services (SIIS) and SI Analytics (SIA).

In his opening remarks, TCSS Director Dr. Fu Kuo Liu pointed out the importance of defence technology, and the Taiwan-Korea engagement on issues of national security. Furthermore, Dr. Liu highlighted that cooperation with the private sector is a critical prospect for Taiwan as the sector’s innovating nature can broaden the capabilities of the security field.

Stated by Adm. Richard Chen, the significant contribution made by satellite images to track changes overtime as well as to prospective decision making cannot be neglected.

Following the presentations from SIIS and SIA, where they detailed the products and the applied technologies. The meeting concluded with a roundtable discussion, both parties agreed to develop future cooperation opportunities and further engagement in the year to come.
