Casmir C. Mbaegbu, PhD is a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, and on a parallel appointment with the Department of Criminology and Security Studies, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Casmir’s extensive teaching and supervision records of graduate and undergraduate students at the prestigious University of Nigeria focuses on international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy, migration and border governance, security, peace and conflict studies, and terrorism and violent extremism.  His broader research interest is grounded in global thinking on the intersections of international relations, soft power diplomacy, migration and border security and health policies/governance.

He has published quality articles in local and international books and journals, such as Palgrave Macmillan, Security Journal, Journal of Asian and African Studies, Cogent Social Sciences, Society Journal, Frontiers in Public Health, Discover Public Health, among others. Dr Mbaegbu is currently an editorial board member of the SN Social Sciences, one of the refereed journals published by Springer Nature.

His current research as a Visiting Scholar in the Taiwan Center for Security Studies, National Chengchi University, Taipei, Taiwan focuses on reframing Taiwan’s para-diplomatic relations in Africa amidst China’s threats via techno-diplomacy. This research interrogates how digitally mediated engagements between Taiwan and African states, facilitated through Taiwan’s soft power influence, strengthen strategic partnerships and sustain support for Taiwan’s sovereignty amid growing pressure from China.
