Special Issue 7 – Summer 2023

From the Editors,

It has now been a year since then-US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, prompting a military show of force from China that has come to be known as the Fourth Taiwan Strait Crisis. While Pelosi’s visit was an important milestone, reiterating Taiwan’s de facto independence and highlighting Taipei’s close ties with Washington, the security situation in the Taiwan Strait has only become tenser. PLA incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ have expanded exponentially, and Beijing’s pressure against Taiwan has ramped up-as much an effort to influence Taiwan’s upcoming elections as to establish a new normal regarding the close proximity of PLA assets around the Island.
