The Institute of International Relations (IIR) at National Chengchi University (NCCU) in collaboration with the Taiwan Center for Security Studies and St. Andrews University invites scholars, researchers, policymakers, and experts to submit chapter proposals for a book tentatively titled Reordering Security in East Asia under Trump 2.0: Geostrategic, Policy, and Regional Perspectives. This book aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the consequences of renewed U.S. unilateralism under a potential second Trump administration.
Scope and Relevance
This book will critically assess how a second Trump presidency could reshape security dynamics, alliance behavior, and regional strategies across East Asia. Contributions are welcome that analyze both country-specific and transnational developments, covering military, economic, legal, and normative dimensions of regional security under shifting U.S. engagement.
We particularly welcome work that complements themes including but not limited to the Taiwan – Japan – U.S. triangle, Vietnam’s “bamboo diplomacy,” cross-strait deterrence, energy resilience, and alliance perception gaps.
Suggested Chapter Topics
Prospective authors are encouraged to address one or more of the following themes:
- Realignments in East Asian security architecture in a post-hegemonic U.S. environment
- Domestic political reactions in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea to Trumpian foreign policy
- Maritime security and defense modernization in the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea
- Economic security strategies: tariffs, decoupling, and energy resilience
- U.S. alliances and perception gaps among East Asian partners
- Strategic narratives and normative competition in the Indo-Pacific
- Legal challenges in East Asian security relations under renewed U.S. unilateralism
(Example topic: “Legal dilemmas of Taiwan’s security strategy amid U.S. retrenchment”)
