The Taiwan Center for Security Studies at National Chengchi University (NCCU), in collaboration with St. Andrews University, Osaka, invites scholars, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to submit papers and participate in a one-day workshop on Reconfiguring Indo-Pacific Security under the U.S. National Security Strategy: Extended Deterrence, Strategic Choices, and Policy Debates in East Asia.
The recent publication of the U.S. National Security Strategy (NSS) marks an important moment in the evolution of U.S. grand strategy and its approach to the Indo-Pacific. Against a backdrop of intensifying great power competition, alliance recalibration, and growing regional uncertainty, the NSS signals both continuity and adjustment in U.S. security priorities, strategic assumptions, and approaches to deterrence.
This workshop aims to situate regional security debates within the broader strategic framework of the NSS, examining how changes in U.S. strategic posture affect alliance credibility, regional stability, and policy choices across East Asia. Rather than focusing narrowly on any single issue area, the workshop emphasizes the larger strategic picture, while also creating space for structured policy debate on sensitive topics within clearly defined analytical boundaries.
