Dr. Alexander C. Tan, Principal Research Fellow and Founder of the Institute of Indo-Pacific Affairs (IIPA)
The Institute for Indo-Pacific Affairs (IIPA), an independent non-partisan research center based in Christchurch, New Zealand, concluded a pivotal delegation meeting led by Professor Alex Tan and other prominent researchers at the Taiwan Center for Security Studies (TCSS) and Institute of International Relations (IIR). This visit underscores the IIPA’s commitment to fostering cross-regional understanding and the Indo-Pacific’s importance in the world.
The delegation’s mission is part of a broader effort to address knowledge gaps in New Zealand about East and Southeast Asia. Composed of experts with lived experience in the region, the IIPA seeks to equip policymakers in New Zealand with nuanced insights about the Indo-Pacific. Their focus extends across four key research areas: political economy, regional security, the new economy and maritime security, and democracy.
The delegation’s visit is also a strategic step towards potential collaboration with Dr. Liu Fu-Kuo and other researchers at TCSS and IIR, aiming to foster joint research and dialogue on regional security and governance.
